social media- unit 35.

P1- social media products.

Existing Social Media:

  • Snapchat.

  • Instagram.

  • Facebook/messenger.

  • Twitter.

  • Whatsapp.

  • Youtube.

  • Pinterest.

- Snapchat allows users to share and capture photos, videos and messages that can live between 1, 10 seconds and unlimited.

- There are news feeds on the discovery section, photos, videos and messages that users can share.

 - Target audience for this app are from 18+ years old and up. Snapchat can contain inappropriate content that isn't suitable for the younger audience.

- Snapchat is still on track to surpass Twitter in US ad revenues next year. eMarketer projects Snapchat will rake in $1.18 billion in revenues, vs. $1.16 billion for Twitter.

Snapchat makes money through advertising between stories or their discovery side. This is their revenue intake per ad:

-Snap Ads: $3,000 a month.

-Sponsored Lenses: $450,000 per day Sunday through Thursday, $500,000 for Fridays and Saturdays, and $700,000 for special events.

-Snapchat Discover: $500,000.

-Sponsored Local Geofilters: From $5.

Legal and Ethic Issues: Consideration to what Snapchat is like, you have to think about issues that can occur.

-Snapchat can be used for bullying and harassment in the same way that any communication medium can.

- Copyright: Snapchat is filter based and stealing filters is an infringement on those artist's rights, as only the copyright holder of a work has the ability to license its work for distribution.

- Adding a photo or video to your Snapchat story will stay there for 24hrs, allowing people to view it. Risk of screenshotting.

- Protection on personal data on Snapchat is a big deal. When setting up the media app, you've got to enter your personal information: email, name, age and phone number. It can be shared very easily which is something major to consider.

-Privacy is a key consideration too. You may have just friends on Snapchat, but being careful is massive, you don't know who's going to peev into your life.

-It doesn't happen often, but you get users 'impersonating others' pretending to be someone they aren't.

Ethical: - Intentionally using individuals as a mere means it's immoral.

- If Snapchat Inc is being deceptive then they are using their customers wrongly.

-Bullying/ cyber bullying e.g. discrimination against race or religion isn't right and shouldn't happen on Snapchat or any social media platform.

-Youtube is to allow people from all over the world to upload and share videos of different content. This is the place which provides a forum for a people to connect.

- On youtube there are videos, upon videos from various youtubers and their channels.

-Target audience for YouTube that is 18+ , as some content isn't suitable and restricted.

-YouTube content creator was $7.60 per every thousand views. A video with 500 views would have earned roughly $3.80. A video like Gangnam Style with a billion views would earn $7.8 million.

A way YouTube earns money is through ads between videos. Such as In-Stream Advertising on YouTube: In-stream(pre-roll) on YouTube offers great targeting and reach, much like traditional television commercials, the ad is played before another video starts. The audience watching can choose to skip the ad after 5 seconds of it playing or choose to continue watching it.

YouTubers earn money through uploading content and views they receive from that.

Legal and Ethic Issues:  Consideration to what YouTube is like and what may occur.

- YouTube have policies that prohibit users uploading copyrighted videos, but that sometimes doesn't stop them.

- People still download YouTube videos.

- Libel (defamation): Some uploaders will willing remove any harmful content.

- Privacy is another key factor to consider. E.g. with YouTube, uploaders can keep their content to themselves for their own privacy or place it as public so everyone can see it.

- Protection of personal data on YouTube isn't too risky as open social medias' because, it kept quite quiet. Other users can't find your personal data such as: your mobile number, where you live etc, but it's still something to keep your eyes on.

Ethical: - There are many videos on YouTube relate to religion and they could cause tension among users because users are allowed to comment and reply on videos.

- Bullying/cyber bullying is a big deal. YouTube allows you to leave comments on users videos and it can become quite sour. It shouldn't be going on.

p2- positive and negative effects of social media.

Positives of Snapchat:

1. Allows you to interact with people that you might have missed when you might just to talk to each other.

2. Snapchat prevents the risk of people hacking into its servers, unlike some email providers and other social media.

3.Prevents other snapchatters from screenshotting your image.

Negatives of Snapchat:
1. People can be on it way to much. It can become a distraction.

2. You can only see a picture for so long so it can give a bad message to teenagers and they might think they can get away with inappropriate pictures they could send to other people.

3.Can teach users that things they send aren't there forever and they can easily disappear which isn't quite true.

Positives of Youtube:

1. Contains vast amount of videos on almost every topic/genre.

2. Innovation affecting the Music Industry, Entertainment, and Media.

3. Opens business opportunities for everyday people (advertisements, publicity, etc.)

Negatives of Youtube:

1.Legal/Copyright issues.

2. Offensive content sometimes promoting hatred or violence.

3. Privacy issues (Home/Address information, people videoed without permission, etc.)

4. Minors uploading videos without parental consent.

p3- commercial.

Snapchat, Advertising: Snap Ads appear in between stories and Snapchat curated content such as Snapchat's stories or publishers' stories. Snapchat allows you to create Geofilters online or on the app given.

Snapchat advertising costs, breakdown of each offering:

-Snap Ads: $3,000 a month.

-Sponsored Lenses: $450,000 per day Sunday through Thursday, $500,000 for Fridays and Saturdays, and $700,000 for special events.

-Snapchat Discover: $500,000.

-Sponsored Local Geofilters: From $5.

Snapchats purpose of advertising/advertisements is that it's a quick way to reach an active audience that are influenced in the latest trends in food, fashion, music, culture and tech. Snapchat has the 6th highest concentration of millennial users among mobile apps at 76%. Snapchat and ads aren't just attracting teens, it's attracting older users too.

Viral Marketing:  A way that Snapchat viral markets is through their discovery section and ads in between stories.

The discovery section is where you can discover influencers, world wide videos from different parts of the world. Users are able to see what other people are doing around the world.

Between stories either through discovery or friends stories, there are always ads for different companies, promoting themselves as one.

Service Reviews: Snapchat doesn't allow users to leave reviews on www.snapchat.com, but what is allowed and beneficial is reporting. Snapchat allows you to report something that users don't agree with or isn't right. For example: users are going through stories and users don't like it, users can hold it down and a flag appears in the left hand corner, click on it and it will take users to why you want to report.

Youtube, Advertising: In-Stream Advertising on YouTube: In-stream(pre-roll) on YouTube offers great targeting and reach, much like traditional television commercials, the ad is played before another video starts. The audience watching can choose to skip the ad after 5 seconds of it playing or choose to continue watching it.

In-Stream on YouTube is also a great format for longer videos giving you more scope to tell a longer story.

Out-Stream Advertising on YouTube: YouTube- certified video player has convenient social sharing buttons for Facebook,Twitter, LinkedIn and more. YouTube offers the option to add a customised, interactive overlay banner and a call-to-action button for optimal engagement.

Viral Marketing: Youtube can be used to drive traffic towards your desired target website by creating a video with content. Youtube is a free social media tool that anyone can use for their personal or professional purposes, as long as it's legal.

Marketers also use Youtube to share information to help their targeted audience, in the hope to get them to click their link(s) in the video's description(s). 93% of the marketers use of social media is for business, however, the point of social media is whether to do it or not.

Service Reviews: YouTube allows allows to leave a review on the media platform. YouTube is open to reviews and comments about what's going on. For example: there's a video with freedom to write something and users want to, there's a comment box underneath the video where users can leave whatever they'd like as long as it's appropriate.

YouTube also allows you to report an influencer or a video that isn't appropriate for their audience.

Other platforms that allow you to write reviews or report are: FaceBook, you can write reviews on companies pages and there's a report button on pages. Twitter, you can tweet a review and put an '@' to whoever you're reviewing. Tripadvisor, you can put a start rating and review saying what's good about a place you visited.

p4-yOUTUBE CREATION.

My first idea for my Youtube Channel 'With me' would be me 'Vlogging' my day to day life. (A vlog is in effect a blog that contains video content.) The purpose of this would be to show people what I get up to during the week. My audience would be from the age 15 +, as the content will be appropriate for that age range and it may interest them. Some people are quite nosey and like looking on others intake.

Vlog examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_NzefAtw04

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly_imAf6TRI&t=556s

With releasing content of Vlogs would be everyday, as vlogs are a day to day upload.

My second idea for my Youtube Channel will be a podcast/sit down video of me talking/discussing a subject that isn't spoken about and that's foster care and adoption. The purpose of this would be to inform or give people more information about foster care and adoption. My target audience would be from the ages of 11+, as I want this message to reach across and from 11+ they would understand more. It's an important subject that everyone should know about.

Sit down examples:

With releasing content of sit down videos, it wouldn't be all the time. On occasion.

Mock up of my youtube channel:

mock 1:

This is the first mock up I have created for my YouTube channel banner. My channel is about family, friends and about my life in a nutshell, and that's where the collage inspiration came from. I wanted to gather photos with family and friends and I wanted it to look like they were thrown down, but in a graceful manner overlapping each other. It worked and I'm really happy with it.

My mock reaches with my target audience because they can see the family and friend orientation that bursts from the collage. This is because of imagery I have used, myself, friends and family. It might be interpreted as an 11+ looking through their own family photo collection and throwing them down one by one creating a similar collage to mine. I haven't used inappropriate imagery, as that wouldn't give a positive response to my channel and haven't used any offensive language throughout giving it a clean swept family aura and making it suitable for those under the age of 18. Lastly, as the content is educational and informative, it should be shown to a younger audience to educate them.

By creating a collage for my first mockup idea is to show my target audience a collection of what my friends and family look like and that through any situation, sad or not so well is a 'light at the end of the tunnel'. My collage shows even though my life wasn't perfect, we are all there like a unit smiling through. That's what I wanted to get off it, the family and friend orientation.

Here is my second mock up for my YouTube channel banner. I have created this as a sketched because looking at it, it's nothing perfect, rough outlines, not as good as it should if it was created on Adobe Photoshop, but that's the whole point of my creativity and it's also a representation that not all families are perfect. No family is perfect, but at the end of the day, they will also stick together.

I wanted to bring it to life and not have it just sat there, all dull, I wanted to add character to it which will keep my audience's eyes on it and have them still interested. Bringing it to life was fun because ideas came out and straight onto the paper.

In the middle of the 'a' I've turned that into a window having a child looking through it looking out to everyone. The 'I' I've turned into a girl being the mum figure, keeping things together as, I've made her arms link around the 'm' and 'l' showing she's the glue to the family.

Finally, the full stop. I've turned that into a football with a dog playing with it. Making it look like the family have kicked it to their pet. Majority of families have a pet which is typically a dog so I linked that and thought, 'a football with a dog at the end playing would be perfect.'

Also, my drawing suits my audience. It's got colour so nothing to be bored of, quite eye appealing, fun and it's more of a nostalgic photo because it's like childhood imagery, a memory of drawing when being a child.

mock 2:

P5- final youtube channel idea.

I've brain stormed 2 ideas for my YouTube channel and I've decided to go ahead with my second, my channel where I vlog to the audience about a subject I am very passionate about, Foster Care and Adoption. This channel will be about the ins and outs of Foster Care and Adoption. I feel these subjects aren't spoke about enough so I thought why not sit and talk about them.

Other content that will be on channel is playlists made up of other Foster Care and Adoption stories from people who wouldn't mind talking about their experiences, the pros and cons about how and why to Foster and Adopt and the support you can search for and receive. The playlists will be there for my audience either to learn from or help them out.

Aside from what will be on my channel, there's consideration about privacy and security set up. With YouTube comes the right of your own privacy and security that needs to be held to your chest. How the set up of an account works is that you've got to log in with Google meaning you've got to be a least 13 or over legally to create an account. You've got to log in with an email and a password, an image as the profile if decided, keep your wits about you. Subscription and liking a video is through an existing account.

Everything done (example above) is all attached to a user so nothing dodgy like unneeded activity can take place. Having a set age range to create a Google account to link through YouTube is a way of security because, it's preventing any unneeded prompts and allowing them to view content.

If some various content is aged older than 13 for example an 18 range a box comes up on the YouTube video screen saying, 'Please confirm you're 18 or over!' Another security blanket for the younger audience so, they don't open on inappropriate content.

If parents are concerned at the bottom of the YouTube page there are tabs that say, 'restricted and safety mode' these can be activated to on so there will be no mishaps on viewing any inappropriate content or comments.

Target audience: My target audience would be from the ages 11+ because, they would understand more on the subjects I will speak about. These two subjects that I speak about aren't spoken about enough and I want the age range to know about them. I don't use any inappropriate content or language making it suitable for my target audience.

Whether or not my video gets lots of views or very few, I want there to be a video that explains the lines of both arrangements.

Annotation of my YouTube channel page:

1- Search bar for users to search what they are looking for.

2- Home, trending and subscriptions are for me, the channel holder. Home is to return to the main page to see what's being played, trending is to see what's the most popular and subscriptions is to see YouTubers latest videos.

3- History, watch later, liked videos and favourites are another category that places. History is as it says, it's all the videos I, the YouTube channel holder has watched over time. Watch later is videos I can save to watch another time. Liked videos are again what it says, videos I've liked of other YouTubers and favourites are videos that I can like if they pick my fancy.

4- These are my subscriptions so, the channels I have subscribed to.

5- Movies and show and settings are extras on YouTube.

6-'Home' is where users can view my main page for my channel.

7- This is my sit down video about Foster care and adoption. A subject that isn't spoke about enough and I wanted to sit down and talk about a subject I am very passionate about.

8- This is my name and channel picture so my audience can see who I am.

9- 'Videos' is where my audience can videos I have created and uploaded to my channel.

10-  'Playlists' is the place where video content with the similar titles are placed in the same category to find them better instead of going through content upon content to find something to watch.

11- 'Channels' is somewhere there are similar channels to mine.

12- 'Discussion' is where I can say about what's going on, like the 'about me' just about general life and what to expect in my next videos, if they appear.

13- 'About' is where my audience (11+)can find more information about me if they'd like to know and get to know me more as a potential YouTuber.

14- This is my final design I have chosen to use for my YouTube banner set up. It suits my audience, as it fits the family and friend orientation I wanted to go for.

If I was to continue creating content it would be similar to my previous video that I uploaded, as I don't feel I covered as much as I could in that last video. It was my first video and I didn't want to go overboard with information all at once. That's why I'd like to create more that are similar with more information for my audience to have, it may even help them understand more. My content and final 'YouTube banner' on my page link because, I've created a collage of my family and friends and the subjects I'm talking about are all about being as one, family and friends. I wanted to keep that family orientation throughout and I feel by doing that, connecting with my audience and them connecting with my will have them to stay.

Above I have put together a 'production schedule' of the tasks that I've done and completed to place out my final idea.

Altogether it's taken me 570 minutes to export and create my YouTube channel and video. My launch day was a very exciting because, I'd finally done it and completed all my tasks so, to upload was a great relief.

Budget:

Lighting; Natural lighting: Free.

Setup YouTube channel: Free.

Camera, iPhone 5s: £350.

Adobe Premiere: £19.99 per month.

Dell Computer: £496.76

Total: £866.75

- 'Revenue Stream':Is another name for income, but because it sounds more sophisticated than the work 'sales or salary'.

I worked out with 'revenue' that for every 25 views on my YouTube channel, I'd get 0.75p. So, currently sitting on 243 views I would earn £7.29 (243 divided 25= 9.72 times 0.75p= £7.29). For example, if I kept up with content on my channel and created more videos that were similar each week or every other and they were being viewed at just over 1,000 I would earn approximately £30 for each video (1,000 divided to 25= 40 40 times 0.75= £30).

Another way I could earn money through my channel would be 'In-streaming' which is basically various ads that I can buy that play seconds before my video starts and just uploading content onto my channel, I could earn money. Unfortunately, I would not earn money through subscribers, but I can through uploading and views.

Here is my final design for my YouTube channel. I had a think about it, top to bottom, left to right and came across my previous profile picture from the mock up and came to realisation that it wasn't appropriate for my target audience (11+) because, it wasn't necessarily inappropriate content, it just wasn't appropriate for my family orientation I was given off.

I changed it to link with the family and friend orientation I wanted. The photo that everyone will come across when searching my name and viewing my channel is an image of a close family friend, my auntie and my me which is more appropriate for my audience.

From my previous mock up, I have changed my channel name from 'Aylisha Sims' to  'Fostering and Adoption'. This is because, the content that is on my page currently and what I will add on it in the later months will be about Fostering and Adoption stories that people will talk about. The font that is on the channel banner is handwritten symbolising honesty and this will relate to other people's stories that the audience can empathise to.

Looking at the banner itself, I have improved it from my previous mock up. I've done this by added coloured frames around each individual image that is placed in the collage of family and friends. I've done this to show more of a creativity standard that I believe I have within me and I wanted to show that to my audience too. I've coloured that frames to give the images a layered effect to standout more.

The frames around the images are all different shapes and sizes because they're a representation of family, friends and lives not being perfect. Everyone's stories that will be uploaded to my YouTube channel are all different and so are the frames.

Above is how my YouTube channel banner will appear on each platform: Desktop, TV and Mobile.

If I had decided to go ahead with my first idea being daily vlogs then the previous image would've been capable, but because I went with the sit down, stripped back video about family the current image suits that and doesn't give any bad or negative vibe to the audience.
