script writing- unit 11.

Introduction:

This unit is about script writing in preparation for creating a short film. I will be showing my ability of  brainstorming and creating a script from scratch. Also, this unit will show the work that I will be creating and analysing over the term.

p1-analysis 2 professional scripts.

Style:

The style of this 'High School Musical 1' script isn't formatted centrally like final professional scripts. This script has the cast members down the left hand side, it is more of a practise read through for the cast to revise their lines during rehearsals so they know what they're going to say before the process of production. English language is use and it is appropriate throughout, there's no swearing through it which is suitable for the audience.

Content:

Content in this script is minimal, as it's only a read through. In this there are the characters names, emotions so there's meaning behind the characters lines, but no camera angles. There's no camera angles because it's a script and not a screenplay that both the cast and crew will have to use through production.

Narrative Structure:

Narrative structure of this script is linear so, from beginning to end it's in order with nothing out of content and it's makes sense.

It opens with a boy, Troy and a girl, Gabriella who meet at a New Years eve party and sing together. Troy starts back at High School and Gabriella is there as a new student, Troy is surprised.  They become close after auditioning together for the school musical.

Troy is an athlete and Gabriella is a geek. They fall for eachother, sing together, fall out and get together. There's lots of singing, dancing and drama throughout.

Throughout all 3 movies, Troy and Gabriella are an item.

Genre:

The genre of this film is musical, as it's musically based from beginning to end throughout all 3 films and from the title 'High School Musical' shows and tells the audience that it's going to be a musical.

Target audience:

The target audience for High School Musical is 6 and over. I know this because, I've researched into the film and saw that it's rated a 'U' which is suitable for all ages. There's no senses of violence, strong language, nudity or sex which makes it suitable for the age range.

The girl on the train:

Style:

The script of 'The girl on the train' is how a professional script should look like unlike the  previous script I analysed of High School Musical. This script though  is correctly formatted with lines and other aspects central and isn't just a read through for cast, it's the final write up used by cast and crew.

Content:

The content of the script has the opening of the scene and where it's set, camera directions and what's going on during the start of that specific scenes, it has characters name formatted centrally with their lines underneath. It again contains directions of what the characters are doing.

Narrative Structure:

The Girl on the Train is about three women. Rachel, the girl who travels on the train, Megan, the girl who being looked at by the girl on the train and Anna, the girl who stole Rachel's husband.

There's a girl who uses the train as an everyday commute to and from work. She becomes obsessed with a seemingly perfect couple who live on her train route and only 2 doors down from where she used to live with her ex husband before they broke up due to her being an alcoholic.

Whilst on her commute to work she sees daily glimpses of the couples lives and begins to see a change and starts to get worry that something isn't right with them. Rachel witnesses something shocking happening in one of the back gardens. She tells the authorities that something has happened, as Megan, who's being looked at by Rachel on the train, but she doesn't trust her own memory and starts to investigate herself.

Genre:

The genre of this script is thriller and I can tell this from the line, 'We hear a train's mournful clatter as trees flash by and then the train itself passes in a silvery streak.' It's dramatically directed through the script and actions.

Target Audience:

The target audience for 'The Girl on the Train' is 15 and over. I know this because, I've researched into the film seeing it's rated a 15 and there are sense of violence, nudity, strong language and intercourse that isn't appropriate for the younger audience.

P1- UPLOAD.

This PDF is a rewrite of High School Musical 2. I found a 2 minute clip off Youtube and rewrote the scene in my own way.

script experiment:

During our unit, we had to rewrite scripts of the short films we created in groups. We then had to pick a rewrote script and we had to draw a script as detailed as we could from what we had on the script in front of us. For some it was difficult because there wasn't much detail, but for me, I didn't find it that hard to do. Just drew what I read.

P2- TWO COMPETENT IDEAS FOR SHORT FILM.

1st Idea, Snapchat Setup; Psychological Thriller:

-Beginning:

(Starts of with the group chat being made clear) A group of friends go out for the day to town or some place, going about their everyday like normal. Talking and laughing and having a good day. Later on in the day, one of them notices someone following them all, but doesn't think anything of it.

-Middle:

They all go home after their day and start talking about how it went, laughing about it. Then about the strange feeling one of them felt whilst out of someone following them and them not thinking anything of it. Continued chatter and out nowhere, someone adds the group as friends individually and they all discuss who it is and when they recognise who it is, they all add the person. They think it's someone they know, but little did they know it's a  'hacker' pretending to be a friend who's close to them all. This 'friend' starts joining in conversation after the group again discuss this 'friend' adding into the group. They are still unsure, but engage conversation.

Over the course of the conversation, the 'friend' starts to become cocky and mildly aggressive to the other members of the group. Throwing threats at them about dark secrets they have about them all. Pointing to them all, one by one about the secrets that lie in the 'friends' hands. Saying, 'if you don't do this, there will be consequences.'

After the cocky moment from the friend, the group are confused about it, but brush it off and arrange another meet up. They meet and make a joke about the moment, but the friend is confused and doesn't understand what they're on about but doesn't say anything.

The joke continues over the next few days and the friend bites and questions.

-End:

The group discover the friend isn't who they say they are so they try and figure out who the 'catfish' is without scaring them away. Asking questions that only they friend would know. When asked the questions, the 'catfish' shuts it down and give out riddles that they've got to solve..

2nd Idea, The life of  a Foster child.

My second idea would be a documentary of 'the life of a foster child' (my story), but acted about by a cast and crew that I'd choose.

It would start off with the girl (someone acting as me) sat in front of the camera telling out her story from the beginning. At parts of the story there would be scenes acted out. So, going from living normally with mum and brother, going through primary in the first few years with mum. Going back to the girl in front of camera telling more of her story, (my story) back to more scenes. A scene where the line broke and both girl and brother are taken from mum to be placed in foster. Back to the girl explaining what happened, going through foster what that was like, how long, how she felt leaving mum, leaving foster to live with her aunt.

Scene of leaving care and being in the arms of her auntie. Back to how she felt, telling the story. Scenes of going through primary, secondary, opportunities she's gone through. From theatre school, Air cadets.

Highs and lows through the time.

Will end with family being happy..

p3- written script for 5 minute short film.

Here is a first draft of my script that I wrote in three days from my initial idea. This is the script I will present during my presentation. It's unedited, as it's a first draft. Once I've been giving feedback, I will add in my feedback and reupload it.

p4- presentation, feedback and self-reflection.

For my presentation, I didn't use WIX or a powerpoint. I used my note book that was full of notes I've taken, ideas and my treatments for both ideas. One in full detail, as that's the idea I'm pursuing and the second not as much, but in as much detail for evidence. I also used my script that I put together for my short film.

My presentation went well, well as well as it could've. I received good feedback;

From my feedback, I will improve my idea and make it more realistic. I wouldn't want to add anything unnecessarily to my film that would lose interest of my audience, as I'd like to do well with my film.

P5- FINAL SCRIPT.

So, I did it. I've added the last piece of  work for unit 11, my final draft of my script. It took me a while to finish the final edit, but I did it and it's here, in black and white.

Thanks! Message sent.
